Starting this spring, a small group of straphangers will pass through turnstiles not with a swipe, but with a tap.
The riders will be testing a plastic tag that lets users simultaneously pay a fare and unlock a turnstile by applying the tag to a scanning device. Some say the technology, which resembles the SpeedPass automatic payment system used at Mobile and Exxon gas stations, might one day send MetroCards the way of subway tokens.
Tapping sounds much better than swiping. I think people purposefully fill the current turnstyle slots with goo. You know ... to make me miss my train.
Either that or it's some sort of accidental goo. Which is icky.
